Faith. We begin with our eyes shut and our ears open. Though we cannot see or understand we are ineluctably drawn as by a crimson cord into the heart of God.
The Loss. Having once found our secure home in faith, we now are ousted and emptied. And then we fall into a new quest of meaning as we seek to recover what we have lost.
Hope. With our eyes open, we now traverse the craggy landscape of God’s dominion. No longer do we depend on another voice. We pick our own path and find intimacy with ourselves.
The Wall. We have come this far but can go no further. Powerless against the overwhelming obstacle, neither force nor rest
Love. At last our heart opens. Not of our own power, but of God’s power in weaving us into community as gilded threads. We find ourselves intricately arrayed and known.
Now these three abide: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
